Elizabeth Smith, LMSW, Psychotherapist

Elizabeth Smith LMSW, Licensed Master Social Worker is a graduate of Stony Brook University’s School of Social Welfare. She is an empathetic and compassionate therapist, experienced in working with clients of all ages in a variety of clinical settings including mental health clinics, in foster care and private practice.

Elizabeth believes that each person has a unique journey and her clinical style is to support each client in learning and understanding their inner strengths, developing strategies to successfully attain their goals and assist through the process of creating lasting change. She practices from a strengths-based, trauma informed and person-centered approach using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psycho-Education and Solution-Focused Therapy. She utilizes mindfulness and relaxation techniques to assist clients with learning coping skills.

Elizabeth assists clients in setting goals and promote personal growth and learning. She primarily focuses on challenging and replacing negative self-talk while building the client’s confidence to make changes in their lives. Elizabeth works with those afflicted with depression, anxiety, self-esteem, trauma, substance use, negative self-image, self harm, relationship and family conflict, dysfunctional family systems, mood disorders, young adult issues and life transitions. She tailors treatment to each individual, knowing each person comes to therapy with their own unique strengths, experiences, and needs.

Elizabeth is passionate about the process of healing, growth and rediscovery of self and celebrates the courage of each individual who chooses this path. Her genuine, empathic nature eases her clients into a therapeutic relationship in which they feel empowered and inspired to achieve their goals and to live life to its fullest potential.
